COFA Information
Drivesure can convert your vehicle with a WOF into a COFA vehicle for Uber or Rental. But you need a few things to start.
Requirements for your first-time COFA (eg for starting with Uber or Taxi)

Change of Usage – form MR14.
Required when changing vehicle use from Private to Commercial. Fill and present form MR14 – ask for the form in-store, and if you require any help filling in the form.
The cost for this varies with how long the current registration is current for, and the vehicle type; please present the filled form at the counter, and they can then confirm the cost.
Once paid & processed, you will be issued with a new/replacement registration label to display on your windscreen (replace the old one with it)
Child Lock Stickers – required by law when operating
-
We can provide warning labels, OR
-
We can provide magnetic signs.
-
We can offer advice on placement of these (close to the rear door-handles)
Luggage Net – required unless you have a separate luggage compartment.
-
We can usually provide a luggage net - or
-
You can get your own, but it must be present for the inspection
-
Vehicle luggage area must have anchor-hooks built fixed to attach the luggage-net for security.
Certificate of Loading (COL)
-
This is a one-off measurement taken of the vehicle, and another ‘reg’ label is produced which should also be displayed on the windscreen.
-
This COL costs $25 for the first time only (reprints cost $10 if you lose it)
-
We can provide a windscreen pouch for this (free of charge)
TSL Number.
You must provide your TSL (Transport Service Licence) Number when presenting the vehicle for COFA inspection.
-
Drivesure do not issue TSL numbers – please speak to Uber, or the company you will work for, or NZTA, for assistance with this.
-
You will normally receive a TSL label during the application process; you should display this when operating the vehicle.
-
Advise the TSL number each time you present for a COFA inspection;
-
We are happy to provide another adhesive windscreen-pouch free of charge
COFA Inspection (currently required every 6 months; it is similar to a WOF, with some extra checks required). If there are any fail-items, you have 28 days to have them fixed and return for a re-check (at no extra cost).
-
Please note NZTA specifies that if you return after the 28 days, a new COFA inspection must be charged, and a new fee paid, for a new/full inspection
Note that there are additional requirements for vehicles with more than 2 rows of seats (for up to 12 seats) for example: Emergency Exit Sign, Hammer, Leg Room requirements, Aisle Space requirements – so please ask our team for further information in these cases.
Feel free to ask our friendly staff if you require any further information.
