How long is my WOF for?

Vehicles 1999 or older have a 6-month WOF and 2000 or newer have a 12-month WOF.

What about a brand new car?

A brand-new vehicle will need another WOF after 3 years.

Can I get my Rego before my WOF?

Accepted Answer

Only if you have a current passed WOF on the vehicle. Otherwise WOF comes first, then Rego.

What is checked on a WOF?

Tyre condition, Brakes, Structural condition (rust), lights, Glazing (windscreen), Washers and Wipers, Doors, Seatbelts, Airbags (If fitted), Speedometer (Must be working), Steering and suspension, Exhaust, Fuel System.

What if I fail?

You will have 28 days to fix what's needed and return for your Pass at no extra cost.

What if I go over those 28 days?

It's an NZTA nationwide ruling that you must pay for, and have an entire new WOF carried out on the vehicle.

Can I drive around while sitting on a fail?

It is illegal unless driving to a place of repair, or to get a new WOF (If the vehicle is safe to do so).

What if my WOF isn't due yet, can I come in?

Yes, you can. We can forward date up to 14 days.

Do I need to empty my boot?

Yes, the inspectors need to access your spare wheel.

Will they touch my baby car seat?

They will need to check the seatbelts so don't put baby back into the seat until you're sure it's all secure.

Can I take my car to a different Drivesure site for Recheck?

Yes, you sure can.

Will my WOF pass with the engine light on?

No it cannot be on.
